Some Things YOU KNOW - 1 John

Some Things YOU KNOW

John concludes his letter by writing:  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. “Knowing” is a big deal in this letter. John speaks of it nearly 40 times in this little letter. Here are just a few things John says that we as disciples of Jesus know:

2:29 - that HE is righteous…  and thus we are sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.

3:5 - that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

5:18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

3:14 - that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers…

3:15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

5:15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

5:19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

Finally, John writes:

3:2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.

With such knowledge of God and what awaits those who are God's children, let us bravely face each day in trust and confidence in Jesus as our savior.  Hugh DeLong
