Jesus and praying - Luke 9:18

Jesus and praying - Luke 9:18

While he was praying…  Prayer is a major theme in the book of Luke as he mentions it some 19 times. The bigger part of such references is about Jesus praying. Notice:

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, Luke 3:21

But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. Luke 5:16

It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12

And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, "Who do the people say that I am?" Luke 9:18

28 Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. Luke 9:28-29

It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples." Luke 11:1

but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." Luke 22:32

40 When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41 And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, Luke 22:40-41

And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. Luke 22:44

Jesus SHOWS us by example how important prayer to the Father should be in our lives. In addition, he taught his disciples how to pray (11:1ff), and that they should pray “at all times and not lose heart” (18:1). Are you following this example of Jesus in your praying?
