Jesus Prayed Luke 11

Jesus Prayed Luke 11

“Now Jesus was praying…” Notice how this just naturally is included in the story of Jesus! We might think that if anyone need NOT to pray, it was Jesus – the Son of God. Of course, that is a purely human judgment that is NOT in line with the reality of God and a right relationship with Him. Of all the people recorded in the bible, the short record of Jesus’ life abounds with the fact that He prayed. He prayed when He was popular, when He was unpopular, when he was baptized, when he chose the apostles, when he ate, when his friends were in trouble, when he was in trouble, when he was crucified! He prayed for his friends and his enemies. He prayed for himself.

He regularly went off by himself to pray and would spend all night in such prayer.

He then taught his disciples “that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart” (Luke 18:1). If Jesus is my measure of prayer, I am sorely lacking. I am not alone, but that just means that many of us are lacking when it comes to prayer. Note again Paul’s simple statement: pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17).

“Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1).
