Reproving God - Job 40:2

Reproving God - Job 40:2

“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it.” (Job 40:2) This was God's response to Job and his speeches. God even responded more harshly to Job: “Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified? (40:8). The truth of the matter is that not only did Job do this, but many people have, are, and will. Forgetting, or ignoring, God's great wisdom and omniscience, we sit in judgment upon Him. We read of various judgments that God has proclaimed and WE decide that HE is unfair and unjust in doing so. We see the severity of the penalty that goes with His judgments, and WE decide HE is unfair and unjust.

God challenged Job about many things concerning the created world, things that were beyond Job's ability to know, and Job could only remain silent. IF he could not speak about such fundamental things that God in His wisdom had put in order, how could he speak about God's judgments?

What have you wanted to 'correct God about'? What judgments or instructions of God have you questioned, challenged, and decided are unreasonable?

Job was correct in challenging the assertions about God that were made by the friends, but he went too far when he condemned God. As noted before, his condemnation came from his ignorance.

Job had the correct response to God's challenge: "Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes.” (42:6). If we have spoken like Job, let us also retract and repent.
