LAST DAYS - Hebrews 1:1
“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Hebrews 1:1-2).
The writer of Hebrews thus states ‘in these last days’ indicating that he and the readers were actually IN and PARTAKING OF ‘the last days’.
People tend to be self-centered when reading such statements, and in reading the Bible also tend to equate such a phrase as the time (days) just before the 2nd coming of the Lord. Thus a funny thing has happened these last 2000 years – every generation has thought they were living in the last days! And, they WERE and WE ARE – but so were the 1st century people!
The last days are the ‘days of the Messiah’. These are those days. Jesus is king of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth. The Word of the Lord has gone forth from Jerusalem (Isa. 2:1-4). The people are again seeking “David their king” (Hosea 3:5).
Thus, it is in THESE LAST DAYS, beginning with the coming of Jesus and continuing until He comes again, that God HAS SPOKEN to US through His Son.
