Mark 6 - Rejection At Nazareth

Mark 6 - Rejection At Nazareth

As we turn from the testimony concerning the identification of Jesus by the evil spirits, we turn to people who encountered Jesus personally, specifically, the people of Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus where he grew up. I wish, on one level, that I knew more about the history of their relationship with Jesus during the period where He grew up (cp. The two statements by Luke 2:40; 2:51-52)

NOW we have the basic testimony: He was now a teacher, they were astonished at His teaching, they recognized that such wisdom was given to Him but they didn’t comprehend the actual source, and he did miracles, demonstrations of power, signs. Such should have had them draw the conclusion that He was the ‘son of God’ (cp. John 20:30-31). Such should have turned their hearts and they would have become His disciples. Some did. Yet here, in his hometown, they responded in rebellion and anger! Hard to figure, isn’t it!

So, while we wonder and marvel at their reaction, we note that such did happen! And it yet it still happens today as people read all the testimonies of the 1st century encounters. In the end, what matters is how YOU react to Jesus – his work and teaching. Hugh DeLong

Luke 2:40 40 The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Luke 2:51-52 51 And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
