The Shrewd Servant - Luke 16

The Shrewd Servant - Luke 16

This undoubtedly is one of the most difficult parables for disciples to wrap their heads around. We tend to identify each part of a parable with a specific spiritual person, object, or action. This becomes difficult with this parable (and with many others).

I think the main point is that in knowing that we will give an account of our stewardship, we should prepare for judgment and being received into eternal dwellings. Such can not be bought! Nor can one change the record of his life in the day of judgment. All such preparation has to be made now, in this life we live. Such is a life of faithfulness to our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Such faithfulness is found in initial forgiveness and restoration of fellowship with God. Then, we live a life of walking in the light which is NOT demanding perfection and sinlessness, but a life of trust, obedience, and the continual seeking of forgiveness when we error (cp. 1 John 2:1-2, and 1 John 1:7-9).

Hence the admonition found in Revelation 2:10: “10 'Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

Are you shrewd enough to be prepared to be received into eternal dwellings?
