The Unrighteous Judge - Luke 18
Again, here in Luke 18 we are confronted with a parable that can NOT simply identify the various parts with corresponding spiritual persons or situations. What we have in this parable of the unrighteous judge is a contrast and comparison of human reactions and the ‘much more’ actions of the God to whom we will give an account for our stewardship of life.
While there is thus a comparison of the unrighteous judge with OUR RIGHTEOUS JUDGE (who judges in righteousness – study again Romans 2). Yet He is ALSO a merciful and gracious judge who has provided for our forgiveness in the giving of His son.
Such is the point to be found in Romans 5:10-11 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
We are to “6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7).
If a human unrighteous judge can be persuaded to give legal protection will not our heavenly father, who loves and cares for us and invites us to trust our souls unto Him as a faithful creator, bring about justice to His faithful children? Yes! Yes He will.
This parable is followed by the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. The sinful tax collector threw himself upon the mercy of God and went away justified. In this parable I see myself and hopefully I am like the tax collector and not the Pharisee.
God, have mercy upon me because my relationship to Jesus, the Savior.
