Acts 5 - Disciples Can Sin
Acts 5 - Disciples Can Sin
Ananias and his wife were disciples.
They agreed together to deceive and lie to Peter and the brethren.(vs. 9)
Satan had filled their heart to lie. (vs. 3)
Such lie was not only ‘against’ men, but also God / the Holy Spirit (vs. 3, 4)
They did NOT have to do this. Their possessions were their stewardship, to do with as they decided They could have kept it all and not share any, they could have share it all and not kept any, or any percentage they choose. (vs. 4)
They EACH lied and were punished directly and immediately. (vs. 5, 10)
Lying is a Sin – Col. 3:9; Eph. 4:25, 1 Peter 3:10
Sin if ‘of the Devil’ – John 8:44
God does not / cannot lie Titus 1:2; Heb. 6:18
Not dwell with liars – Rev. 21.8, 27
This seems to have been an exceptional case in that it was the first public sin among these disciples, at least the 1st one recorded for us. It was drastic and was an illustration of the severity of sinning against God’s revealed will. We can all be thankful that such is NOT the norm for our relationship with God.
We have all lied, probably many more times than once! We can be forgiven, but we must repent/
Brethren, put away lying – both to men and to God.
