These Things – 1 Tim 4
These Things – 1 Tim 4
“Prescribe and teach these things.” (1 Tim. 4:11)
These things! These things that Paul was writing to Tim.! “I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long;” (1 Tim. 3:14) Therefore: “Prescribe and teach these things.” (1 Tim. 4:11) And, “Prescribe these things as well, so that they may be above reproach.” (1 Tim. 5:7)
“Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.” (1 Tim. 4:15-16)
Because: “In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.” (1 Tim. 4:6) “For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion,” (1 Tim. 1:6)
Having warned Tim. that “the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs, he instructs him to “flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.” (1 Tim. 6:11)
Maybe we need to reread this letter and notice what all ‘these things’ are!
