The Work of An Evangelist - 2 Tim. 2:2
We learn that Timothy was doing the ‘work of an evangelist’, and was instructed to ‘fulfill’ his ‘ministry’. There are actually quite a few things that this included and entailed, but one of the important ones is found here in 2 Timothy 2:2:
2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
As one man, he was limited concerning how many people he could teach and evangelize, so he is to teach, train, and entrust others to also do this work. Then THEY are to do that for others who will then do it for others, etc. With each iteration of this, the increase itself increases – exponentially.
Each congregation should encourage whoever is working with them to engage in THIS work. It was invaluable to me to have been mentored in such a situation, and then I had the privilege and support of the congregation to teach/train/and mentor a number of young men who are now all faithfully serving full-time in the same effort. Such work often does not immediately see its fruit, and hence it is often neglected. Yet, ‘down the road’, it will produce much more fruit for the Lord.
Now, you need to figure out how to encourage and support men to do this.
