This is the basic outline of last nights lesson.

Suffering Through 1 Peter

17 times in 16 verses (logos search)

Christ suffered - at least 6 times… 

5:1 - Peter a witness of the sufferings of Christ.. as well as the glories!

1:11 - predicted

2:21 - Christ suffered FOR you, leaving an example

2:23 - ‘he’ suffered - but not ‘react’ — 

3:18 - Christ suffered once for sins…

4:1 - Christ suffered in the flesh…

OUR suffering - 

4:15 - LET none suffer as an evildoer —  

4:16 - Suffer AS A CHRISTIAN —  not ashamed but glorify God in this name…  

3:14 - suffer for RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE - will be blessed. 

2:19 - a gracious thing to do good and SUFFER FOR IT… enduring

2:20 - when do good and suffer for IT —  ENDURE — this is ‘a gracious thing’ — 

2:21 -  to THIS we have been called…  

5:9 - Such are ‘common to the ‘brotherhood’ —  

5:13 - suffer ‘according to God’s will’ (the HOW we suffer) - REJOICE - 

4:19 - suffer ‘according to God’s will’ - ENTRUST your soul to a faithful creator - while doing GOOD…

         doing good - 

                  2:15 - put to silence the ignorance of foolish people..  

         2:21-23 - the EXAMPLE of how to suffer ‘according to God’s will’ -

·      reviled —> NOT revile in return

·      suffered —> NOT threaten

·      Continued entrusting himself to Him who judges justly… 

Thoughts

·      Such is NOT antithetical to the concept of a just, loving God - 

·      God through Jesus has himself suffered —

·      Suffering is often out of LOVE… 

·      Suffering for sin - an indication of one’s faithfulness… 

·      Suffering is temporary - for it is ONLY in this world for us.

·      Suffering gives way to glory -
