Immediately They Followed Him - Mark 1

Immediately They Followed Him - Mark 1
Reading the first chapter of Mark we see that Jesus calls some of his disciples (later to become apostles) - Simon (Peter), Andrew, James, and John. Immediately they left their boats and their family and followed Jesus. What you don’t see from Mark’s story is that they have been acquainted with Jesus for some time before He calls them to full time discipleship.
They had listened and followed John the Baptist (John 1). They had off and onbeen with Jesus and seen and heard Him. NOW He calls them to give their lives unto following Him.
Having seen what He did and hearing what He taught, they immediately left all and followed Him. They had lots to learn. They struggled with learning to apply some of His teachings. They even struggled with believing the resurrection.
After His resurrection and spending 40 days with them, He sent them out into the world to proclaim the story of Him. They relentlessly repeated what they had seen and heard (see 1 John 1:1-4). They began this whole ‘movement’ we call Christianity. They suffered and died in order to proclaim this story. Now, 2000 years later, I have read their story and also believe that Jesus is the Son of God who saves. Upon coming to such trust in Jesus, WE are called to IMMEDIATELY become followers of Him.
