What to Expect
If you have never visited with us before we realize going to a new location and being with a group of people you've never met can be somewhat intimidating. We want your first experience to be easy and comfortable. To help with that we have included this information so you can have a good idea about what our services look like.
The Building:
Our building has rooms for bible classes for all ages and an auditorium where we assemble together for worship. There is no special seating so please feel free to sit anywhere you would like.
The People:
The individuals that make up the Country Club Road church of Christ come from all backgrounds and are at different levels of spiritual growth. What unites us is our faith in Jesus Christ and God's word. We are simply people seeking to do what is right and serve God as He has shown us in His Scriptures. We don't pretend to be perfect or know everything perfectly and that means sometimes we miss the mark but, we hope that you will see we are earnest people who love God and thankful of Jesus His Son.
Prayer:
From the beginning of Christianity we find that Christians prayed when they came together for worship (Acts 2:42). We also offer prayers during our worship, making our request know to God (Philippians 4:6).
The Lord's Supper:
We partake of the Lord's Supper on the first day of every week just as we see the first Christians doing in Acts 20:7. During our observance of the Lord's Supper, unleavened bread is passed around to the congregation and then trays containing grape juice. These two emblems represent the body and the blood that was nailed and shed on the cross so that we might have the forgiveness of our sins (1 Corinthians 11:23-25). Every Christian may partake of the supper as we remember and think on the death of Jesus.
Contribution:
We have biblical example of a collection taken every first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) to support needy saints and to help further the work of the gospel. This is a freewill offering as each one has purposed (2 Corinthians 9:7). During this time baskets will be passed around to the congregation so each one will have the opportunity to give. Anyone who is not a member at 10th and Country Club Road is not expected to give. If you are visiting we just ask that you place your visitor card in the basket.
Singing:
During the service one of the men will lead the congregation in song. The songs are projected on a screen in the front of the auditorium and each seat has a song book for your use. Feel free to following along. We are not concerned about how well we sing, only that our song is from the heart being offered to God as praise. We do not use mechanical instruments of music in our worship to God. Instead we sing and make melody with our hearts to God (Ephesians 5:19).
Preaching:
During our service there is also a period where our preacher (also called an evangelist or minister) will present a lesson from God's word. These lessons help us to understand the word of God better and help motivate us to serve God (2 Timothy 4:2).
The Invitation:
At the end of the sermon an invitation is offered to anyone who needs to ask for help in their spiritual lives. After the invitation is given we sing a song and during that time anyone can come to the front and ask for prayers, make confession of sins, or accept Christ in the waters of baptism. We find in scripture that this is keeping with what the early Christians did. On the day of Pentecost when Peter preached the Gospel in its entirety for the first time he offered the invitation for those listening to be saved (Acts 2:36-40).
