Testimony Of John The Baptist

Testimony of John the Baptist

There was a man sent from God….    His name was John. (John 1:6). The Old Testament predicted a forerunner that would prepare the way of the Messiah - John is him (John 1:23; Isa. 40:3; Matt. 3:3). The Old Testament predicted that 'Elijah' would come, that is, one would come in the very spirit and power of Elijah to announce the days of the Messiah. If you will receive it, John is him ( Matt. 11:14). John did not seek glory but sought to serve God as the forerunner (John 1:19-20). John said Jesus was the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). John baptized Jesus and thus was used to identify Jesus as the Son of God (John 1:26, 31-34). John bore witness that Jesus was the Son of God (John 1:34).

Of all the prophets, John is the greatest because he personally introduced and identified the Messiah as Jesus  (Matt. 11:11). Christians, by virtue of being IN the kingdom of God's dear son (Col. 1:13) are said by Jesus to be 'greater' than John (Matt. 11:11).

Would to God that all of God's people would be as faithful to their calling as John was to His.   Hugh DeLong
