The Way of Faith in Hebrews

The Way of Faith in Hebrews

Without faith it is impossible to please God. Such faith is not to be a moment but it is to be a life lived trusting in God. The write of Hebrews has in the first 10 chapters given the foundation for such trust in God. God has provided a better messenger, rest, covenant, priest, sacrifice and hope. Even though in the history of mankind, men have failed in their faithfulness time and time again, God remained faithful to HIS purpose and cause.

In chapters 10 through 13, the writer then turns to HOW such a life of faith should be lived. The phrase that he uses repeatedly is "let us…". This phrase actually appears 29 times in this book! To point out a few we would note: "Let us hold fast our confession" (4:14; 10:23); "let us with confidence draw near (4:16; 10:22); "let us lay aside every weight … and let us run with endurance…"(12:1); let us be grateful (12:28). Further he wrote: "…let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.." (10:24). Finally he concludes: "let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name" (13:15).     Hugh DeLong
