Harden Not Your Hearts - Psalm 95

Harden Not Your Hearts - Psalm 95

The Lord is a great God. He is a great King above all gods. He is the creator. In his hands is the care of all the earth.

What is the response of God's people? The Psalmist instructs us to 1) come before Him with thanksgiving 2) shout joyfully to Him with psalms 3) worship Him 4) listen to him with an obedient heart.

Yet, we are reminded that God's people have NOT always been faithful. Even after seeing God's power and protection as He delivered them from Egypt, they rebelled against God.

Their problem is the universal problem of mankind: they were hardhearted against God. Though God had revealed himself to them, they refused to trust and obey Him.

God's reaction is worth noting: He was angry and loathed them. All such disobedience comes with this price. Those with such hard hearts against God will NOT enter into eternal rest.

Thus, we see the writer of Hebrews in his many warning to the Christians of the first century, included this warning from the Psalms. During times of tribulation and persecution, many become hardened against God.

We then ask: what can we do during such troublesome times? How can we keep our heart responsive to God? Again, the Psalmist has instructed us to 1) come before Him with thanksgiving 2) shout joyfully to Him with psalms 3) worship Him 4) listen to him with an obedient heart!
