Rejection of God’s Grace - John 3
Rejection of God’s Grace - John 3
In the third chapter of John we see the universal provision that God made concerning man and his sin:
- God so loved the world He gave his Son - vs. 16
- Whoever believes in Him will have eternal life - vs. 15
- Whoever believes in Him shall not perish - vs. 16
- God sent the Son… that the world might be saved through Him - vs. 17
- He who believes in Him is not judged - vs. 18
YET, even with these provisions whereby men CAN be saved, many simply reject God’s offer of mercy!
- He who does NOT believe has been judged already - vs. 18
- Men loved the darkness rather than the Light for their deeds were evil - vs. 19
- Everyone who does evil… does not come to the light - vs. 20
Thus the conclusion of chapter 3:
"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." (John 3:36).
This believing in Jesus involves not only belief of facts (i.e., He is the SON of God, is the Christ, He has been raised and glorified, etc. – cp. John 20:30-31), BUT also an implicit TRUST in Him as our Savior. Such trust shows itself in obedience (Jn. 3:36). Are you TRUSTING Jesus? Are you practicing truth (vs. 21)? Are you obeying Him (vs. 36)?
