In Him Was Life - John's Gospel

In Him Was Life - John's Gospel
In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men” (John 1:4). So John writes in the beginning of his gospel. This then becomes a major theme visited many times in John’s writings:

  • I am the way, the truth, and the life (14:6)
  • I am the living bread… and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh (6:51).
  • I came that that they may have life and have it abundantly (10:10).
  • I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep (10:11).
  • I lay down my life for the sheep (10:15).
  • Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends (15:13).
  • The son gives life to whom He will (5:21).
  • Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life (3:15-16, 36; 6:40; 47)
  • The bread of life is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world (6:33).
  • I am the bread of life (6:35; 48)
  • I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live (11:25).
  • "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” (8:12).
  • Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day (6:54).
  • Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you (6:53).
  • Whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him (3:36).
  • Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life (5:40).
  • "So Jesus said to the Twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life,” (6:67–68).
  • "Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (20:30–31).

John would later write: "And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life" (1John 5:11-12). Do you have life in Jesus?
