Live in peace (be at peace) - 2 Cor 13:11

Live in peace (be at peace) - 2 Cor 13:11

Paul ends this letter to a divided church: 11 Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. (2 Corinthians 13:11)

God is the God of peace – Hebrews 13:20

Jesus is king of peace by saying that Jesus is “king of Salem, which is king of peace.” (Hebrews 7:2)

Paul taught:

18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” (Romans 12:18)

15 Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace. (1 Corinthians 7:15)

13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. (1 Thessalonians 5:13)

19 So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. (Romans 14:19)

We learn in Hebrews that we are to “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)

Thus we learn about peace:

There is Peace with God – we who were enemies have been reconciled.

There is Peace between Jew / Gentile in the church  Eph. 2

There is to be Peace of brethren in the local congregation

There is to be Peace in our marriage relationships

As much as we can, we are to be at peace with ALL.

Jesus stated in the beatitudes: 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9) Such peace is NOT world peace, but the peace that Jesus gives (see John 14:27; 16:33). As such, there are some people and situations that will not allow it.

How strongly are you pursuing such peace? Are you willing to suffer wrong and forfeit your ‘rights’ to promote peace? Are you a peacemaker or a trouble maker?
