We Begin the Journey
We Begin the Journey
Genesis = Beginnings. Except for God and the spirit world, it is the beginning of everything about us: the universe, animals, man, marriage, family, sin, death, difficult labor, and hope.
The write of Ecclesiastes states that “the end of a matter is better than its beginning;…” (Eccl. 7:8). So it is with this story. We have a long way to go and a lot of reading to do, but we will get to this better end! The same time we start Genesis, we start with Mark: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (Mark 1:1). The gospel is the GOOD NEWS concerning Jesus, the promised Messiah, the Son of God. He will be the 2nd Adam and will undo everything that came to ruin through Adam’s sin, including death and separation from God (cp. Romans 5 and 1 Cor. 15).
So we set forth to observe God’s march through our history to redeem and save man. We will meet the great men of God such as Abraham, Moses, David, and countless others, yet they will have faith in their God (perhaps this is a good time to turn and read Hebrews 11!).
Living in this world that has been so tainted by sin and its effects, we, “according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,…” ( 2 Peter 3:13-14). Even so, Lord, come quickly.
