The Promise To Abraham Established With Isaac
The Promise To Abraham Established With Isaac
Here in chapter 26, God says to Isaac: "Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham. "I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws." Genesis 26:3-5
Thus, the oath God had made with Abraham is here established with Isaac.
· Multiply his descendants as the stars of heaven (see Neh. 9:23; Heb. 11:12).
· Give your descendants all these lands (see Joshua 21:43, and the note below).
· By your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.
This last promise is fulfilled in Jesus – the son of Abraham. (See Paul’s point on this in Galatians 3:8, 16). Peter said concerning this and Jesus: “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways" (Acts 3:24-26).
You, and everyone of all nations, CAN be blessed by God in Jesus. Specifically here, you can be turned away from wicked ways and be reconciled unto God through Him. If you have been baptized into Christ, then you are Christ’s, and if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise (Gal. 3:26-29). Are you blessed in Christ?

The Land – while Abraham personally did not receive such even though he lived in it, it was given to his descendants. Joshua brought them in and God gave them all the land He had promised (Joshua 21:43; see 1:3; 2:9, 24), even as He gave them Jericho yet they had to march around it and follow God’s instructions to take the city. So, God gave it, yet, they were to ‘take it’, which they did NOT. And what they took, they did not keep because they were unfaithful to the covenant. WE, as Abraham’s seed, have a greater and more perfect land for we will dwell in the presence of God and that forever.
