Exodus 19 and 1 Peter 2

Exodus 19 and 1 Peter 2

In Exodus 19 we read what Moses said of God’s relationship with Israel.

The Great invitation: “Now, IF you will obey my voice and keep my covenant, you will be…” (vs. 5)

·        A people of God’s Own possession – (vs. 5)

·        A kingdom of priests – (vs 6)

·        A holy nation – (vs. 6)

When we turn to Peter’s first letter to the Christians, notice how he describes them:

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).

The great invitation (read Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:16)

·        A people of God’s own possession –

·        A kingdom of priests –

·        A holy nation

As you meet with other Christians, take a close look at them. What do you see? NOT the movers and shakers of this world. Not the rich and famous. Not those who are in the news. They, in fact, are not a remarkable bunch! As the saying goes: “not much to write home about.” BUT, learn to see them as God sees them. Look at them from God’s perspective: They are HIS PEOPLE. They are a royal kingdom of priests! They are a holy nation. They are a people of whom “this world is not worthy” (Heb. 11:28).

First, let us learn to see them this way. Then, let us learn to treat them as they ARE. Let us learn to love, honor, and respect them. Let us learn to LIVE as God’s people.
