Blood of Bulls And Goats

In our reading today we read of the laws of the offerings. This may sound a bit like the 12 days of Christmas in that there is a repeating phrase for each day and the required sacrifices. Here is a shortened reading to simply emphasize the number of offerings that were listed here.

First there were ALWAYS to be the morning offering of one lamb and the evening offering of one lamb, plus their accompanying offerings.

Sabbath day saw two male lambs offered.
At the beginning of every month: 2 bulls, one ram, and 7 lambs, PLUS one male goat for a sin offering to the LORD.
On the 14th day of the first month was to be the beginning of the Lord's Passover.
On the 15th day of the first month: 2 bulls, one ram, 7 male lambs, AND one male goat for a sin offering to make atonement.
On the day of the first fruits: 2 bulls, one ram, and 7 male lambs, AND one male goat to make atonement.
On the first day of the 7th month (day of Trumpets): 1 bull, 1 ram, and 7 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering to make atonement.
On the 10th day of the 7th month: 1 bull, one ram 7 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering BESIDES the sin offering of atonement and the continual burnt offerings.
ON the 15th day of the 7th month, for seven days, 13 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 2 day, 12 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 3 day, 11 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 4 day of the 7th month, 10 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 5 day of the 7th month, 9 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 6 day of the 7th month, 8 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 7 day of the 7th month, 7 bulls, 2 rams, 14 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.
ON the 8 day of the 7th month, 1 bulls, 1 rams, 7 male lambs, and one male goat for a sin offering.

WOW. I added these up (warning, possible mistakes made here!) and found 79 bulls, 20 rams, 140 lambs, plus 720 daily lambs. We add to this 2 lambs every Sabbath day. Then there were 13 times where it specified 'a male goat for a sin offering for atonement".

Then the LORD added: "You shall present these to the Lord at your appointed times, besides your votive offerings and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings and for your grain offerings and for your drink offerings and for your peace offerings.’ ” (29:39).

My thoughts upon all this:

As a friend said in bible class as we discussed this: What a bloody smelly experience that would be!
Sin brought awful consequences into their lives.
Almost all things are purged by blood.
There was a continual reminder of their sins as daily and often times multiple times on a given day, they made sacrifice for their sins!

Would it never end? Yes - in Jesus. He made ONE offering, for ALL TIME, and for ALL people and ALL sin. He now officiates as our high priest in the very presence of God the Father. Through HIS blood we are cleansed, sanctified, justified, and saved. What a wonderful Savior! Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! Is He your savior?
