The Heart of David - 1Chron. 14-16

The Heart of David - 1Chron. 14-16

I find it interesting to see how the writer of Chronicles puts great emphasis upon being right with God. In chapter 14, David prospers at the hand of God because of his faithful obedience. David inquired of God how he should battle the Philistines. “David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines”. The greater result ends this chapter: “and the LORD brought the fear of him on all nations”.

Then, David attempted to move the ark of the covenant, but did not ‘seek the LORD after the due order’. David KNEW how it was to be moved, and the importance God put upon treating holy things with holiness. Then, as David moves the ark according to the commandments laid down, the LORD prospered them in their endeavor.

David will then arrange and setup the whole of Israel’s worship service, appointing the various positions and duties. Our reading ends with the great Psalm of thanksgiving. “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting… Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. Then all the people said, "Amen," and praised the Lord” (1 Chronicles 16:34, 36).

How many of us have the heart of David towards God? Are we willing to ‘seek Him after the due order’ and to do “just as God had commanded’? Are willing to repent and change when we error and are chastised? Do we “continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name” (Heb. 13:15).
