Jeremiah Chapter dates

 

The latter part of Jeremiah has the chapters out of chronology. Thus, the reading schedule rearranges them.

According to Smith (Old Testament History: Major Prophets, Logos edition):

Chapter 1 "narrates the prophetic call of Jeremiah in 627 b.c."

Chapters 2–25 form the first major division of the book. These chapters are mainly pre-605 b.c. This was the year of the battle of Carchemish, the fourth year of King Jehoiakim of Judah and the first year of Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.

 

The other chapters are then arranged for effect and various dating schemes have been put forward. Here you can compare Smith’s arrangement/dating and our reading schedule’s arrangement. I took Smith’s suggested dates and put notes in the margin of my bible to indicate the chronological order. Sometimes I read it in chronological order, but often just as it is arranged in our Bibles noting the various dates. Hugh DeLong
