I Came To…   1 Timothy

I Came To…   1 Timothy

It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. (1 Timothy 1:15)

Why did Jesus come to earth? Actually, he gave several different reasons. In such scenarios, people are prone to pick the one or two that they like and either downplay or ignore the others. Why?? The better course to take is just believe what Jesus says.

I came to call sinners to repentance - Matt. 9:13; Luke 5:32

I came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets - Matt. 5:17

I came to bring a sword that would separate even members of the family - Matt. 10:34-35’ or as Mark worded it: I came to grant division (Mark 12:51).

I came to seek and save the lost - Luke 19:10

I came so that those who do not see (spiritually) may see, and that those who (claim to) see may become blind (John 8:14; 9:39).

I came that people may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

When facing his imminent death, He said: “Now my soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour’ (John 12:27).

“For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world — to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice” (John 18:37).

Jesus accomplished the work that He came to do. He said in His prayer the evening before He was crucified: “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do” (John 17:4). Then again, while on the cross, John wrote of Him concerning the cross: "After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” “ (John 19:28) Then, having received a drink of sour wine, “He said, “It is finished!” And he bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” (vs. 30).

You can be saved by the work of Jesus! Even if you think you are a greater sinner than Paul, or anyone else, Jesus can save. He will NOT save those who reject Him, but that is not because of any weakness in Him. As Peter exhorted: “Save yourselves from this untoward generation!” (Acts 2:40).
