Some Things I Learned About Jesus In 1 John

Some Things I Learned About Jesus In 1 John

John was one of the first disciples of Jesus and was chosen to be one of the 12 apostles. He was with Jesus from the baptism of John and witnessed the death of Jesus. He was privileged to have Jesus show Himself alive unto him for nearly 40 days after the resurrection and then watched as Jesus ascended up to the right hand of God. He steadfastly preached the good news about Jesus for many years. Here towards the end of his life he writes this letter in which he yet again tells the main things that he knew about Jesus.

·       Jesus is the Son of God - 4:15; 5:5

·       Jesus is the Christ - the promised messiah of the Old Testament - 2:22; 5:1

·       Jesus came to and DID destroy the works of the Devil - 3:8

·       Jesus is the Savior of the World - 4:14

·       Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of the world - 2:1

·       Jesus takes away sin - 3:5

·       Jesus laid down his life for us - 3:16

·       Jesus is now our advocate in Heaven - 2:1

·       The blood of Jesus cleanses us from sins - 1:7-8

·       We live through Him - 4:9

·       Through Jesus we have been given eternal life - 5:11

If John had lived to be twice the age of Methuselah, he would yet write the same things for these things are the truth about Jesus (cp. 1:6, 8; 2:21; 3:18, 19). We are faced with the choice of eternity: believe it and be find salvation or deny it and face condemnation.
