Doing Good

Doing Good

As we come to the end of Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he has another one of those busy chapters on responsibilities of a disciple. A challenge: make a list of each of these statements and then go do them!

In particular, I noticed verses 9-10: “9 And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary. 10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (Galatians 6:9-10). This is an often-repeated subject for Paul.

Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Colossians 1:20 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

1 Timothy 6:18 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,

2 Timothy 2:21 21 Therefore, if a man cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:17 17 that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Titus 2:14 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Titus 3:1 1 Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,

Titus 3:8 8 This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.

Titus 3:14 14 And let our people also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, that they may not be unfruitful.

Our discipleship is not just believing, but an active lifestyle of DOING, in particular, doing GOOD. In fact, it is by such doing good that we can overcome the evil.

So, a 2nd challenge: make a list of good works you CAN do, and then go do them. Are you devoted unto good works?
