Hebrews 2 - Jesus The Great Restorer

Hebrews 2 - Jesus The Great Restorer

Almost everyone who has read the bible remembers the story of Adam and Eve and how they were tempted in the Garden. God had provided a world that took care of all of their needs. Through the temptation of Satan, Adam lost it all. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, Adam, and US, will have it all restored. What Satan took away through sin, Jesus restores through forgiveness. Jesus is better than Satan.

God had subjected the world to man (Adam). God put everything in the garden under the control of man (2:5-8). We don't see it that way now – for Adam lost control. He lost control of himself, of his wife, of children, and even the ground. He lost the right to the tree of life. He lost the right of spiritual life with God.

What we do see is Jesus. Although before His incarnation He 'was God' (John 1:1), He became flesh and thus was made lower than the angels (John 1:14). The purpose of the incarnation was that through the suffering of death He would experience death on behalf or for the benefit of everyone (2:9). To be the sacrifice for man, He became one of us (2:10-14).

The good news is that, though He was tempted in all things as we are, He did not sin (4:15). He thus was qualified as the perfect man to die as a sacrifice for man. Through this death He destroyed the very power of death and thus the one who held such power – Satan (2:14).

Through His death he turned away the wrath of God against us (made propitiation for sin – 2:17). Through Jesus we are restored to a right relationship with God. Through Jesus we will yet again have access to the tree of life (Rev. 2:7; 22:2, 14). Through Jesus, all the evil that has come into our world through the evil one will be removed. Through Jesus all that was lost will be restored.

Oh, How I love Jesus, because He first loved me. He is worthy to receive blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever! (Rev. 5:13).
