The Better Covenant
The Better Covenant
The writer of Hebrews summarized the earlier part of this book by saying:
“1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary, and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man” (Hebrews 8:1-2).
He now elaborates even further on this new situation that you and I find ourselves.
· A New High Priest – 11.
· A New Sacrifice for Sin – 12.
· A New Covenant – 15.
· A Greater and more perfect Tabernacle – 11.
· Cleansing of the CONSCIENCE, not just the flesh – 14.
· Eternal redemption – 12.
· An Eternal inheritance – 15.
I still find it difficult to understand how people who have come to understand this new situation and have put their trust in this new High Priest could even think about returning to their old ways (whether that was to return to the earlier covenant and sacrifice or to their old life outside of Christ). Yet, whether I can fathom such or not, some DID. Life often gets in the way of faith. False expectations of what God offers us often bring great disappointment and resentment. Such is not God’s fault, it is the problem of misunderstanding on our part.
Go through the above points of chapter nine, meditate upon the greatness of the gift that our heavenly Father has given us in Jesus. Set your mind upon those great promises that are yet to be ours. We now have our conscience cleansed and we serve the Living God. Are you trusting Jesus?
