Wisdom in Speech - Colossians 4
“5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person” (Colossians 4:5-6).
In this day of mass media, we are removed from most face-to-face discussions. The unfortunate fallout of this has been the unrestrained ugly speech that pours forth. In one sense, I do not ‘fault’ the worldly people, after all they ARE the world. But I am disappointed when those who claim to be disciples of Jesus engage in such. Read the scripture above AGAIN (and again!).
We are to be the salt of the earth (so said Jesus – Matt. 5:13). Such salt is to be used in our daily dealings with the world. So many times, what you can see is instead of gracious words, there is only ungracious and hateful speech. Instead of words seasoned with salt, it is ‘SALTY’ language.
I am reminded of several hymns that we sing:
Angry words, oh let them never…
We Are the Only bible, - what if the print is blurred?
Brethren, we not only CAN do better than this, we MUST do better than this. Are you walking in wisdom towards others?
