Jesus Sabbath and Pharisees

Jesus Sabbath and Pharisees

These religious leaders had falsely accused Jesus of violating the Sabbath law (reread Mark 2 and related Old Testament passages). Now, Jesus deals with their traditions about observing the Sabbath. On the Sabbath day, in their Synagogue, in the midst of their Sabbath meeting, Jesus healed a man.

Such was evident that God was ‘with Jesus’, that Jesus was acting with the approval of God. I find it interesting that these religious men just ignore the miracle and evidence! Instead, they join the Herodians, their religious opponents, in how to ‘get rid of Jesus’. In the end, they crucify the Son of God!

As they walk away from the evidence, Jesus is ANGRY with them! The rejection of God, God’s evidence, God’s message of the gospel, God’s whole act of grace in providing the means of forgiveness, such does not go without consequences! Yet, Jesus is also grieved at such hard heartedness.  Behold the kindness AND the severity of God!
