Examine Self - Galatians 2:1-3

Examine Self - Galatians 2:1-3

Paul, an apostle (Gal. 1:1). He saw the Lord (1Cor. 15:8). The gospel message was revealed unto Him (Gal. 1:11-12). His teaching was confirmed with signs of a ‘true apostle’ (2Cor. 12:12). YET, when the controversy over having to keep the Law was being argued, he ‘checked’ his message with that which the other apostles were proclaiming (Gal. 2:1-3).

We will face many differing teachings in our lives as disciples. We are to ‘examine’ and ‘hold to what is good’. While we have no living apostles to check with, we have their writings. We need not only to compare what others are teaching with such apostolic writings, but we need to examine what WE BELIEVE and hold on to it if it is found to be true: “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;” (1 Thess. 5:21)

Paul will later make this very commandment:  “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
