All Things In Subjection - Hebrews 2:8
What is man? The pinnacle of God’s creation that we are a part of – created in the image of God. Thus Genesis 1:28 says: “God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Thus, the Hebrew can repeat: “You have put all things in subjection under his feet” (Heb. 2:8).
The Hebrew write alludes to this, but then states that ‘but now we do not yet see all things subjected to him”. What happened? Man lost control of self, chose to rebel against God. SIN.
Does that then mean that God’s purpose for mankind is gone – thwarted – ended? NO, for God has provided a way back, the WAY, the way THROUGH JESUS.
Thus this 2nd chapter of Hebrews shows that Jesus is the one who overcame our enemy and nemesis – Satan. Jesus, made for a little while lower than the angels”: Jesus was incarnated, the Word became flesh (John 1:14), He partook of flesh and blood (Heb. 2:14), He took the form of a servant, was made in the likeness of men, was found in appearance of a man (cp. Phil. 2:5-8).
He did what Adam and Eve failed to do, He lived without sin (Heb. 4:15; 2 Cor 5:21; Heb 7:26; 1Pet. 2:2). He thus became the author of eternal salvation unto everyone that obeys Him (Heb. 5:8-9).
We will yet be what God created us for! We will live in the presence of our God and Creator. We will be glorified as we shed glory and honor upon Him. Praise the Lord for such a gift.
