Consider Our High Priest - Hebrews 3

Consider Our High Priest - Hebrews 3

As we turn to Hebrews 3, we are admonished: “ Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession” (Heb. 3:1

‘Consider’ means to think about, ponder, meditate upon. What are the facts? What are the implications?

He IS our High Priest! Heb. 8:1 1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

He serves in the very presence of the Father. Heb. 8:2 2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.

He is a high priest that is holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and is exalted above the heavens! (Heb. 7:26).

There was a change of priesthood and a change of law/covenant that we serve under. Heb. 7:11-12 11 Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron? For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.

He serves forever.  Heb. 7:17 17 For it is attested of Him, "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek."

He offered the greatest sacrifice – HIMSELFHeb. 8:11-12 "And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, And everyone his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' For all will know Me, From the least to the greatest of them. "For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more."

With Him as our High Priest, we can come boldly to the throne of grace knowing that we can find mercy and forgiveness. (Heb. 4:16) For this, let ever give thanks!
