Let Us - Hebrews 10
Let Us - Hebrews 10
As we read chapter 10 we make a change to application of what we have learned. Hebrews has been called the ‘better’ book, for in contrasting the covenant under Moses with that of Jesus, what WE as disciples have is BETTER. Such does not denigrate the old law, but it holds up Jesus and His teaching as BETTER.
With Jesus we have a better messenger than angels (1:4), hope (7:19), covenant (7:22; 8:6); promises (8:6); sacrifice (9:23). The writer promises us a better country (11:16) and a better resurrection (11:35). Scattered throughout the text are other things described as ‘better’. So, what do we do with these better things? Notice the three ‘let us’ exhortations (10:22-25).
· Let us draw near (to God) with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith… (10:22).
· Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering… (10:23).
· Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds (10:24).
Of course, these are only 3 examples of the writer’s ‘let us’ exhortations as he has scattered similar exhortations throughout this letter: “Let us” fear (4:1), be diligent (4:11), hold fast (4:14), draw near (4:16), press on (6:1), lay aside (12:1), run with confidence (12:1), show gratitude (12:28), bear His reproach (13:13), and continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God (13:15).
What we HAVE in Jesus is just plain BETTER, let us BE and DO better.
