Paul Prays For The Colossians - Col 1:9-12

Paul Prays For The Colossians - Col 1:9-12

Although Paul did not know them personally, they were his brothers in the Lord. Thus, he prayed for them.

Specifically he prayed that they would be filled with knowledge of God’s will, understanding what they knew, and using wisdom to apply it to their daily lives . To facilitate the fulfillment of this prayer, Paul wrote this letter that includes not only facts about Jesus and His teaching, but practical teaching on how to conduct themselves.

Walking worthy of our calling involves, according to Col. 1:9-12, four things. Of course, there are other things, but these are what Paul lists here.

First: Bearing FRUIT in every good work. Our faith must be put into action in our lives. This fruit is the fruit of CHARACTER – i.e., Gal. 5:19-22; reflecting Beatitudes – etc.

Second, we are to be increasing in the knowledge of God. Although we as humans were created in the Image of God, by choosing a life of sin we lost such and now are developing it again, being recreated in the image of His son in Godliness and Holiness.

Third, we are to be Strengthened with all power according to HIS glorious might.. SO THAT it produces Steadfastness -  ‘steady the course’ --- unwavering, not side-tracked, and Patience – continued doing of right in the face of adversity and obstacles.

Fourthly, it results in our Joyous thanksgiving. We Acknowledge our total dependence upon God.

How is your faith affecting your daily life?
