Set Your Minds - Col. 3:1-3

Set Your Minds - Col. 3:1-3

HAVING been raised (cp. 2:10-13 – Faith Confession Baptism)

Before our conversion we were dead in sin and enemies of God. Through our faith in God’s working and trust in Jesus as the savior, we were buried in baptism in which we were then made alive and raised to walk in newness of life (cp. Col. 2:10-13, Roman 6:1-4).

Now, being alive unto God, we are to keep seeking things above. This is a present active verb which means it is to be a continuous activity on our part. Although the situations of our lives will keep changing, the aim and purpose does not. Our desire is to live with God forever.

To  do this, we must set our minds on things above. Before, we were among those who set their minds on earthly things, which end is destruction (cp. Phil. 3:19-20). To ‘set our minds upon’ is to control our thinking. We fill our mind with the story of Jesus and with His teachings. Even when confronted with the distractions of this life, we think, contemplate, ponder, and long for living in the presence of God.

What have you set your heart upon?
