Our Example to Unbelievers - Colossians 4

Our Example to Unbelievers - Colossians 4

Paul instructs us that we are to “Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders” (Col. 4:5). This is one of the important parts of evangelism! Such an outwardly visible lifestyle is exhorted for elders, wives, and all.

Elders: “And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil” (1 Tim. 3:7).

Wives: are “to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored” ( Titus 2:5).

ALL disciples are to “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).

Often the problem is simply that they do not understand WHY we live as we live! The godly lives of disciples are seen as foolishness to worldly people. Hence Peter adds to this thought that we are to “Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:12).
