Good News of Great Joy - Luke 2:10-14

Good News of Great Joy - Luke 2:10-14

The announcement of the birth of Jesus to the shepherds is still remarkable! I can only imagine how their hearts must have burned with fear, excitement, anticipation, thanksgiving, and great joy! Why? The one born is their Savior, the Christ (Messiah), and the Lord. All of these designations will be enlarged upon as Luke continues.

Then, I can only speculate on what the sound of a multitude of the heavenly host praising God would sound like! I have been in a choir of hundreds that sang the Messiah. I have led singing with hundreds of God’s people singing. Yet, surely such can not be compared with this! Picture, if you can, the shepherds out in the field with their sheep getting to hear this! Do you think they ever forgot it?

And what did they hear the heavenly host say? “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

THEN: “The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them” (Luke 2:20).

No matter what anyone thought or said after that, I am convinced that these shepherds would continue their realization that this Jesus is the Savior, the Christ, the Lord.

What is your understanding of Jesus?
