Who You Going To Believe - Luke 24
Who You Going To Believe - Luke 24
On the first day of the week following the crucifixion and burial of Jesus, ‘the women’ (cp. 23:55) came to the tomb only to find the stone rolled away. Upon entering they did not find the body of Jesus. This left them perplexed!
Then, two men in dazzling clothing appeared (I take them to be angels, cp. Vs. 23). Interestingly they question the women: “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”
I do not find their belief in this at all challenging. Jesus promised it. Now it has happened. So, off they go to tell the apostles, who also had on several occasion had Jesus foretell them the same thing! YET, when given the testimony of these women, they considered it nonsense and did not believe! THEN, He appeared unto them. Not once or twice. Not just when one of them was alone. But many times and in many different groups. He appeared unto them ALIVE.
Leaving the book of Luke and reading the sermons in Acts, which is our next reading in this schedule, they will preach the same message over and over: You put Jesus to death but God raised Him from the dead and WE ARE WITNESSES OF HIM.
It isn’t hard to explain the change, unless you deny the resurrection!
