Greatly Mistaken - Mark 12

Greatly Mistaken - Mark 12

In Mark 12, Jesus said to them, "Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures or the power of God?” (vs. 24) “have you not read in the book…” (vs. 26). “you are greatly mistaken” (vs. 27).

There is truth. God is the God of truth. He has revealed Himself in His word so that we can understand – understand the very purpose of our existence and our relationship with Him. This will encompass all of existence. God revealed it in such a way that it can be understood, hence it was put into WORDS – words that the human mind could learn by hearing/reading. Such words are God’s words and as such are eternal. God promised! (cp. 1 Pet. 1:23-25; Isa. 40:8; Psa. 119:89-90; Matt. 5:18; Mark 13:31; John 12:48; etc.).

Thus, Jesus asked “have you not read” in Matt. 12:3-5; 19:4; and 22:31! These rulers COULD have read and understood God’s word, they SHOULD have, but the DIDN’T. They were thus greatly mistaken in their religious thought.

God has spoken. He has preserved. I am to read. I am to read correctly. If I am not careful and diligent, I will be GREATLY MISTAKEN!

Thus, we ask today: “… have you not read”?
