Be ALERT - Mark 13

Be ALERT - Mark 13

31 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 32 "But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 33 "Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.” (Mark 13:31-33)

Jesus is coming again, and with Him the end of this world. Knowing this ahead of time, He gives us sage advice:

Take heed, keep on the alert (vs. 33); “therefore, be on the alert” (vs. 35); “What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’ (vs. 37).

How easy it is to get caught up in the things of this world (life, politics, work, SELF). Thus, the three-fold repetition of the advice. I need to pay attention, pay attention, pay attention! I need to pay attention to what Jesus has taught. I am HIS disciple. I am to know, remember, and do (obey) HIS every command. My thinking is to be molded into HIS thinking. My life is to be lived by His teaching and example.

We often take such warnings as warnings against false teaching / teachers, and so it is. BUT, even more dangerous is ME and MY THINKING. While NOT paying attention to false teaching, am I giving heed to the true teaching of Jesus? Am I excusing myself when I should be changing? Am I alert?
