Headline News - Galatians 4

Headline News - Galatians 4

40 years ago, we would have grabbed a morning newspaper and immediately been confronted with the headlines in large bold type. Today, we grab our phone and are confronted by a talking head on one of the many, many so-called news broadcasts.

We are confronted by winter storms and their devastation leaving people dead, homeless, and facing real life-threatening situations. Other channels scream about our political situation and claim that we are facing the end of society as we know it. Still others predict the end of our economic comfort. BUT that all (and more) is about ‘us’, the United States that is again horribly divided by ideologies.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is a mess (as usual). There are other storms and natural disasters such as earthquakes, famines, tsunamis, etc. There are wars, political overthrows, murders, human trafficking, economic failures, raging epidemics. People all over our world are just trying to survive the day – finding food and some shelter from the elements. Thousands are dying daily.

So, imagine if the headlines everywhere proclaimed: GOOD NEWS – Jesus has died for you! You can be forgiven and have the hope of eternal life in the presence of God your creator.

Imagine reading/hearing: “(4) But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, (5) so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. (Galatians 4:4-5)

Such should be the headlines every day, everywhere. But alas, people all over the world “are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life” and ignore this message (cp. Luke 8 and the parable of the sower). Don’t let life sidetrack you from the important thing: your relationship with God.
