Language - the gift of God

Language - the gift of God

It is interesting to me that when Adam and Eve were created, the were created with the gift of communication by language. The greatest showing was they could talk to God. This gift, like almost all others that God has bestowed upon mankind, can be misused. As James declared: “from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.” (James 3:10).

Here in today’s chapter Paul states that “and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks” (Ephesians 5:4). Our current American society has rapidly incorporated that very kind of speech into the everyday language. Everywhere you turn your ears are accosted with such. Most people have become so used to it that they don’t even realize they talk that way.

NOT SO among us? Well, as James said: ‘these things ought not be this way’. And Paul said such should not even be named among us – it isn’t PROPER for HOLY PEOPLE, God’s people, saints. How is your vocabulary?
