Colossians 1:12-14 In Remembrance of Me

Colossians 1:12-14 In Remembrance of Me

Colossians 1:12-14 (12) giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. (13) For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, (14) in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

This exhortation of thanksgiving is based upon our remembrance of who Jesus IS and what He has done for us (read – ME!). While we follow the example of the early disciples and meet on the 1st day of the week and observe the Lord’s supper ‘in remembrance of Him’, such remembrance is daily thing.

The thing we often either ‘forget’ or downplay is our condition BC – before Christ, before my learning, knowing, and receiving the truth concerning Him. Under the power of darkness and unable to escape! In such condition could only expect to eternally be excluded from the presence of God. Yet, many (most? All?) remember such condition as “I wasn’t so bad.” One of the reasons God gave us memories is so that we can in fact remember our past condition of sin and condemnation!

BUT, now IN CHRIST, we are 1) saints (sanctified, set apart FOR God), 2) saints in LIGHT (God is light, and we now walk in Light and fellowship with Him), 3) our inheritance because God is again our Father who accepts us as His children (cp. Gal. 3:26-29, etc.) 4) in the kingdom of Jesus – the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the one with all authority in heaven and earth, our savior, 5) Redeemed and forgiven! Our sins are to be remembered against us no more – all because of Jesus.

Do you remember what you were? Do you constantly give thanks for what you now are IN CHRIST?
