What Kind of SEED/Sower OR SOILS

What Kind of SEED/Sower OR SOILS

Here in Luke 8, Jesus tells the parable of what is usually labeled as the parable the sower. The main components of this story: a sower, a seed (the word of God), and the soil. What happens to the seed is dependent upon the nature of the soil.

Thus, this ‘Parable of the sower’ turns to the problem of one’s response to GOD’s WORD – or now “the parable of the soils”! WE do have the responsibility of what kind of soil we are! We choose how to respond. We can accept it or reject it. We can ignore it or obey it. While the seed remains the same, people simply respond differently.

There are however consequences of MY choice as it pertains to others! Am I a sower of good seed? We, as God’s people, are to ‘Hold forth the word of life’, and sometimes use words! By our actions we prove to be Lights in the world, salt of the earth. In the words of the Old hymn, We are the world’s bible – what if the print is blurred!” How does the world READ ME?

We often use this parable to ‘judge’ others – but parables must first be applied to SELF. In the end, we will prove ourselves to be a ‘kind of soil’… How am I doing? What am I doing? What are the guiding principles of my life – God or self/man? What kind of soil am I proving to be?
