Reading 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus

Reading 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus

First, the chain of revelation from God: God à Jesus à HS à Apostles & prophets à their teaching à written word.

We then see the constant concept that Paul puts before these fellow-workers:

·       It is a trustworthy statement:  1 Tim. 1:15; 3:1; 4:9; 2 Tim. 2:11; Titus 3:8

·       “these things” –  1Tim. 1:6; 3:14; 4:6, 11, 15, 16; 5:7; 6:11; 2 Tim. 2:14; Titus 2:15; 3:8

·       Sound (meaning healthy) – 1Tim. 1:10 (teaching); 1Tim. 4:6 2 Tim. 4:3; Titus 1:9; 2:1 (doctrine); 1 Tim. 6:3, 2Tim. 1:13  (words); Titus 2:2 (in faith, love, perseverance); Titus 2:8 (speech)

·       Sacred Writings – 2 Tim. 3:15

·       All Scripture is inspired – 2 Tim. 3:16-17

·       2 Timothy 3:10 10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,

·       2 Timothy 3:14 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,

We must pay attention to WHAT we are learning and the source from which it comes. Thus Paul set the example of preaching by ‘reasoning from the scriptures’ (Acts 17:2, 17; 18:4, 19; 19:8, 9). Thus we can read about the Bereans: “11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men” (Acts 17:11-12).

 Are you paying attention?
