Jesus the Messiah the fulfillment of the scriptures
Matthew begins his telling of the story of Jesus: “The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1).
Jesus the Messiah: the promised son of Abraham through whom the whole world would be blessed, the son of David who would rule over the earth. To show that He is the Messiah, Matthew will again and again state that He fulfilled the scriptures that foretold of such a Messiah, some 16 times! See chart.

Matt 1:22
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
Matt 2:15
He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON.”
